Ideas for FWChapters (Don’t take on too much too soon!) Up one folder

  1. Host a regional gathering or workshop for FWC.
  2. Do not focus only on how you can change things or change people in your area. It is sufficient reason to gather to encourage one another by your presence -- to remind one another that you are not alone as ECOTs in the UCC.
  3. Seek acquaintance with, and, if possible, friendship with, your association and conference staff. Invite them to attend your meetings.
  4. If conference staff or non-ECOT pastors or laity attend your meetings, welcome them. You have nothing to hide. Be yourselves and invite them to share their stories and concerns.
  5. Plan some of your gatherings where you can offer help or resources for churches and clusters in your area -- sharing success stories, inviting outside speakers, reviewing curriculum and resources for churches, etc.
  6. Occasionally plan meetings solely for the purpose of prayer -- for your churches, for FWC, for the UCC leaders and regional/national events.
  7. Encourage ECOT clergy in your area to meet together without laity regularly or at least from time to time to discuss their unique needs.
  8. Discuss together how you can seek greater representation of ECOT clergy and laity as nominees for associations and conferences so that the ECOT perspectives are represented at the table.
  9. Encourage your FWChapter members to attend events sponsored by the association and conference in your area, so that your presence is felt in constructive ways.
  10. Consider publishing an FWChapter newsletter. For an example, see The Southern Conference Renewal Network. We can also host newsletters on the FWC website.
  11. Establish a chapter treasury by taking offerings at your meetings and encouraging FWChurches and individuals to contribute. With these offerings you can fund guest speakers and gatherings, pay costs for newsletters, send representatives to national FWC meetings, and help support the national FWC costs.
  12. Contact other FWChapters to share your ideas with them and find out what they are doing in their areas.
